I absolutely adore C J Cherryh’s writing and the Foreigner series is her best work, in my opinion, so I was very excited when the new book was published and have been waiting for an opportunity to get a copy.
It was worth the wait.
Bren is back on the planet after a successful mission, introducing not one but 2 species of aliens – one who might like to be friends and one who is a mentioned spectre who promises to produce problems. Oh, Cherryh has introduced material enough to fill books and books yet! I hope she doesn’t get bored with the characters, because I have not!
This volume is a much quieter tale, in comparision. Bren is forced out of the Bujavid through lack of somewhere to stay – so he decided to take a quiet month at his coastal property, writing up some notes and perhaps having his brother visit.
But you know that it will not be a peaceful time, don’t you. I hate spoilers, so I won’t gve anything aweay, but needless to say Cajeiri will need rescue, Ilsidi will stomp her cane, Banichi and Jago will be in harms way and Bren will need to carry that pistol.
Its a great book, which you can probably guess from how fast I read it!

(and the really good thing is that I realised today that the writing is complicated enough that I can start the whole series over again soon!)
